blogging about DIRECT LEADERSHIP

Welcome to my blog about EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP!

with 2 comments

I have created this space because I feel strongly about restoring sanity in the field of EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP.

Why? Because after more than 25 years as a trainer and leadership development professional I see that the people who manage and lead people on a daily basis have to take a lot of blame, but receive little help.

Much too often the discussion and training of leaders has gone astray from what it is really all about, i.e. dealing with people on an everyday basis and supporting, nudging, telling or training them to carry out their daily work in a way which supports your organisation’s goals.

The main side tracks have been:

Creating a split between management or leadership skills, often with the twist of tainting management as ’inferior’ to leadership.

Teaching specific leadership skills as unconnected or professing that one particular leadership style is a cure-all regardless of the given context and situation.

This is what I passionately want to change.

In reality, the job of anyone in a leadership position is always to MANAGE + LEAD – and to do so in a multifaceted, ever-changing mosaic of facts and human perceptions. This requires that the leader has a clear understanding of his/her responsibilities and rich arsenal of approaches to interacting with people.

I have worked at this endeavour for a few years already.

First, I developed a training program, which creates clarity and restores respect in the job of managing and leading people in a way which matches the work conditions of the 21st century.

Secondly, I have written a book about it “Direct Leadership™ – the new narrative of everyday leadership”, which will be available on Amazon later this year.

Today, I take the third step and launch this blog and a LinkedIn group – http://linkd.in/ckENe6 – and I invite any leader or leadership trainer, who finds that my mission resonates with him or her to:

–  subscribe and comment on my blog posts or write about your everyday challenges

–  spread the word about this blog and LinkedIn group

Not only will I personally commit to respond,  I will also invite members of the network of certified Direct Leadership™ trainers, who share my passion about everyday leadership to do so.
